It is one of the questions we get asked most on the phone and one of the searches that brings the most people to this website: does Casa Varela have a lunch menu? The short answer is that we do not serve a fixed-price menu of the day for individual tables. The long answer is more interesting, and it explains why so many L'Hospitalet locals come for lunch on weekdays anyway.
What we do serve at lunchtime: the full menu and the "Daily specials" section
From 13:00 to 16:00, every day, we serve the same menu as in the evening, at identical prices with VAT included. And every day we open it with the "Daily specials" section: whatever came in from the fish market and the produce market that morning. A salt-baked scarlet shrimp, a xatonada with tuna belly, wagyu cecina with smoked stracciatella, oxtail with St George's mushrooms, black spaghetti with sea cucumbers. It changes with the week and the season, and it is how we understand a "menu of the day": not a price, but a product.
Eating well on a weekday without overspending
You can eat at Casa Varela for a very reasonable price if you order sensibly. A few ideas that work for a business lunch or a weekday midday meal:
The fried eggs: our fried eggs and huevos rotos are the house's fast food, a dish that comes out in minutes and fills you up.
Hot bites: Mum's croquettes, patatas bravas, squid, Galician razor clams or the pork knuckle tacos. Two or three things to share make a complete meal in half an hour.
A main and a dessert: the beef cheek cannelloni with gorgonzola cream or the Iberian secreto with hoisin sauce, and for dessert the tiramisu cheesecake (€9.50) or the passion fruit and peach foam (€9).
A rice for two: if there is time, our fish-market rice dishes start at €28.50 per person and are made to order.
Fixed-price set menus: for groups of eight or more
Where we do work with a fixed price is our group menus, designed for business lunches, celebrations and family gatherings of eight or more guests:
Casa Varela Classic (lunch): €67.50 per person.
Casa Varela Noche (evening): €65 per person.
Casa Varela Excellence (corporate): €65 per person, with an optional melanosporum truffle supplement.
Casa Varela Business: €60 per person.

And at the weekend?
On Saturdays and Sundays we serve the same menu, with no special menu and no surcharges. The only thing that changes is how busy we are: Sunday lunch is our fullest service of the entire year, so it is worth booking a few days ahead. We are at Carrer de Blas Fernández Lirola 82, in Santa Eulàlia (L'Hospitalet de Llobregat), and we answer the phone on (+34) 934 31 92 05 from 12:30.
