Bellvitge is the district of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat that receives the most visitors from outside the city every day: the Hospital Universitari de Bellvitge, the Institut Català d'Oncologia, the faculties of the Bellvitge Campus and the hotels around the Gran Via bring in thousands of people who, when it is time to eat, find themselves surrounded by cafés and fast food. How far Casa Varela is from Bellvitge
Casa Varela is in the Santa Eulàlia district, at Carrer de Blas Fernández Lirola 82. From the hospital it is about three kilometres. Your options for getting here:
Metro L1: from Hospital de Bellvitge or Bellvitge to Santa Eulàlia, on the same line, no changes. It is about seven stops, then a ten-minute walk through the district.
Car or taxi: along the Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes towards Barcelona, Plaça Europa exit. About ten minutes depending on traffic. There is public parking at the Gran Via 2 shopping centre.
On foot: about forty minutes along the Gran Via. Not the prettiest walk in the city, but it is flat and direct.
Why come all the way to Santa Eulàlia
Because a proper meal changes a hard day. Many of the families who visit us come from the hospital: they need a quiet table, service that does not rush them and food that comforts. At Casa Varela we have been doing exactly that since 1986. The cooking is Mediterranean, with produce from the fish market: rice dishes, fish of the day, fried eggs, slow-cooked stews such as tripe or oxtail when in season, and house classics like the slow-cooked pork knuckle tacos or the beef cheek cannelloni.
If there are several of you, we have private rooms and quiet corners where you can talk without being overheard: ask when you book and we will have it ready for you. And if anyone at the table has an intolerance or a special diet, let us know: we adapt the dishes so nobody has to give up eating well.
Opening hours and reservations
We are open every day. Lunch from 13:00 to 16:00 and dinner from 20:00 to 22:30 Monday to Wednesday, until 23:00 Thursday to Saturday and from 19:30 to 22:30 on Sundays. For those staying near the Fira
The hotels around Plaça Europa, the Gran Via and the Fira are even closer: between five and ten minutes on foot. We are an alternative to the area's chain restaurants for a quiet dinner after a day at a trade fair, with the full menu published with prices and set menus for groups and business meals.
